See the next section for details. Part 2. Head to Riften. Riften is the nearest landmark to Dayspring Canyon, the entrance to Fort Dawnguard. You most likely already have Riften on your map, but if you don't it can be found in the southeast corner of the map, on the east side of the lake. Take the road east out of Riften.
The entrance to Dayspring Canyon is a short distance from Riften's east entrance. Cross a bridge after turning southeast. You'll cross a small bridge soon after you take the path to the southeast. There may be some wolves nearby that will try to attack. Look at the cliff wall to your left as you walk. A few steps after crossing the bridge, start looking at the cliff wall to your left.
The entrance to Dayspring Canyon appears as a crack in this wall between a hollow log and a birch tree that's been broken. Enter Dayspring Canyon. This will load a new area, where you'll be able to find Fort Dawnguard. Follow the path to approach the fort. The path will wind through a rocky area for a few minutes before you reach the fort.
Talk to Durak and Agmaer if you encounter them. If you see Durak along the path, he'll give you a new crossbow after talking to him. Agmaer is another new recruit, and will provide you with the Dawnguard quest if you somehow managed to make it here without starting it. Enter the fort. You'll find the fort at the end of the path. Continue around the fort and up the incline to find the entrance.
Part 3. Talk to Isran. You'll find Isran in the center of the main room as soon as you enter the fort. Tell Isran that you want to join. He'll appreciate your enthusiasm, but he'll need you to complete some tasks before the order is ready to be joined.
Travel to Dimhollow Crypt. You're tasked with finding what the vampires were after in the cave, and to kill any that may still be there. Tolan tells you that he'll meet you there to help. Dimhollow Crypt is in the mountains of the Dawnstar to the north.
You'll find it near Frostmere Crypt if you had previously visited that location. Make your way through the crypt. You'll encounter multiple vampires, hounds, and skeletons, as well as a frostbite spider. Free Serana. At the end of the crypt, you'll free Serana, who will ask you to take her to her ancestral home.
This will start the next quest in the series. Fight your way out of the crypt. After freeing Serana, you'll have to fight some gargoyles, draugr, skeletons, and undead as you make your way out of the crypt. Make sure to use the Word Wall and grab any loot that you want on your way out.
Travel to Icewater Jetty. Considering Riften's heavy tie to organized crime, it wouldn't be farfetched to think that this is possible, but it also raises the question of whether there was actually a strong vampire threat in Skyrim at all.
Sorine Jurard, an old acquaintance of Isran who joins the Dawnguard's new cause, has her own theories on what happened to the Dawnguard before they were disbanded. She speculates that the Dawnguard, jealous of the inherent power vampires possessed, decided to become vampires themselves, preying on the people of the Rift before they were eventually hunted down and killed.
It's an interesting theory, but like every other theory on the history of the Dawnguard, there isn't much to back up the claim. Despite the many conflicting stories about the Dawnguard, the one constant is the story of the Jarl's son becoming a vampire. However, there isn't much consistency in what actually happened to this son once he was imprisoned by the Dawnguard. There is the theory that they couldn't keep the Jarl's son contained and had to kill him, subsequently being banished from the Rift, but this would conflict with other stories of them staying in the Rift to cause havoc on the people of Riften.
Only one thing is absolutely certain about the history of the Dawnguard: nothing is certain about the history of the Dawnguard. As the signature weapons of the Dawnguard, it's hard to find a more powerful and common weapon in their arsenal. Aside from their connection to the Dawnguard, crossbows are more prevalently seen on Dwarven Spheres in Skyrim, which raises some questions on why the Dawnguard chose this weapon in particular.
The Dwemer disappeared during the First Era, but the Dawnguard weren't formed officially until the Second Era, which began years after the disappearance of the Dwarves. The Dwemer were known for their particularly advanced technology, but the crossbow was easily one of their more low-tech advances compared to the likes of Spheres and Centurions. It could simply be the result of the events of Dawnguard taking place in Skyrim, but there are no beast races that can be recruited to the Dawnguard throughout the storyline.
Unless the player chooses to make their character a Khajiit or Argonian , the Dawnguard is made up entirely of humanoid races, with the only elven character being Durak. Last Edited: 8 Nov pm.
